A Sad Day - In Memory Of Professor Craig McDonough

For those of you who attended Champlain College, and had the fortunate opportunity to take a Macroeconomics or Microeconomics class, read this...

So I found out today that one of my favorite professors in college passed away on Friday. For those of you who went to Champlain College when I did, read this:

I have the very sad duty to inform you that Craig McDonough passed away Friday. Craig has taught economics for the College for several years. Apparently he had a heart attack during a graduation reception for his son at the Gailer School on Friday.

If you are interested in sending a card or note to the family, send to:

The McDonough Family
The Gailer School
4066 Shelburne Rd
Shelburne, VT 05452

If you are interested in contributing to the college expenses of Craig's two sons, you may send checks to:

Gailer School/McDonough/Sieben

Shelburne, VT 05452

If you are interested in partnering with folks at the Gailer School in providing meals for the family over the next few weeks, please call Emily Tupper at the Gailer School - 985-1276.

Updated: More From Champlain College

At this time two events are being planned to honor the memory of Professor Craig McDonough, who passed away last Friday.

We are planning a Champlain College event on campus at the beginning of the fall semester. Members of the McDonough family plan to attend. We will have details closer to the event in September.

Members of the Champlain College community have also been invited to participate in a special family event The McDonough family is going to carry Craig's ashes onto Mt. Abraham on Sunday, June 12th, Craig's birthday. If you are interested in joining a small group of close friends and family, please RSVP by June 10th to 802-453-7114 (please leave a message if there is no answer, including a number at which you can be reached). The plan now is to gather at the base of the mountain at Lincoln at 8:00 am. Craig's daughter, Phaedra, is coordinating this memorial activity. If you are interested, please RSVP with the family.

In addition, the Gailer School is in the process of creating a "College Fund" for Craig's sons, Yukio and Akira. I will have more details in a week or so.

Updated 2: The Burlington Free Press

DR. CRAIG VINCENT MCDONOUGH BRISTOL - Craig Vincent McDonough, 62, died unexpectedly Friday, June 3, 2005, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Craig lived in Bristol and worked as a professor of economics at Champlain College. He received his master of arts and doctor of philosophy at the University of Illinois. Craig was a loving father of six children: Phaedra McDonough, Craig McDonough, Nadia Cutler, Sandino McDonough-Sieben, Yukio Fidel McDonough-Sieben, and Akira McDonough-Sieben. He will also be greatly missed by his seven grandchildren and his sister, Dona Leslie Evans. Craig will be remembered as the world's most interesting person, with his infinite knowledge, political involvements, commitment to social justice and economic equality, enormous, unabridged library, wild, Einstein hair, coffee, red pajamas, exhausting truth, and love for nature, teaching and classical music. DAD, WE WILL MISS YOU. A private memorial service will be held for family and close friends. A college scholarship fund has been set up for Craig's two dependent children; please contact the Gailer School in Shelburne if you wish to contribute.
